TORONTO — Kristin Kreuk and Jay Ryan were in downtown Toronto on Tuesday filming scenes for an upcoming episode of Beauty and the Beast.

The city’s busy Yonge-Dundas Square was standing in for New York’s Times Square, complete with yellow cabs and a fake subway entrance.

B.C. native Kreuk (Smallville) plays Catherine Chandler, a police detective who is torn between her duties and her love for Vincent Keller, a man who transforms into a beast when enraged.

New Zealand-born actor Jay Ryan plays Keller.

In one of the scenes filmed Tuesday, two police officers on horseback are alerted to Keller’s presence in the Square, forcing him to run away as the horses move closer — all while Chandler stands by and watches.

Beauty and the Beast co-star Sendhil Ramamurthy, who plays Gabe, was also on location to do scenes.

Beauty and the Beast is only weeks away from wrapping up production of its second season.

"About Last Night"

About last night…

VinCat fans, prepare to freak out as Vincent (Jay Ryan) and Catherine (Kristin Kreuk) are having that very awkward talk in tonight’s episode of Beauty and the Beast. Because they had sex, but was it of the breakup variety?!

It seems the CW hit’s fan favorite pairing are not seeing eye-to-eye about the night they spent together, as Vincent and Catherine have quite the heated argument over the phone in our exclusive sneak peek at tonight’s spring finale, “About Last Night.”

Fair warning, VinCat fans: the G-word (Gabe, obviously) comes up.

While Vincent thinks the pair “are meant to be together,” Catherine calls their night of passion “a mistake” and “breakup sex.”

She then brings Gabe (Sendhil Ramamurthy), the other point in BATB’s love triangle, into the conversation. So how does Vincent react? Watch our exclusive sneak peek above to find out!

And Beasties, make sure to vote for your favorite show in the final round of our Save One Show tournament. BATB has been in the lead throughout the entire tournament, so it’s time to bring the win home.

"About Last Night"

Beauty and The Beast Season 2 Episode 16 “About Last Night” airs Monday, March 10 2014 at 9pm on the CW.

Episode Synopsis: Beauty and The Beast Season 2 Episode 16 “About Last Night” – CAT AND VINCENT ARE REMINDED ABOUT HOW IN LOVE THEY USED TO BE — In order to prevent Sam (guest star Tom Everett Scott) from destroying a large group of people, Cat (Kristin Kreuk) and Vincent (Jay Ryan) are forced to revisit a romantic destination from their past, which enables them to come to a new realization about what they mean to one another. Nina Lisandrello and Austin Basis also star. Stuart Gillard directed the episode written by Melissa Glenn.

Detective Catherine Chandler is a smart, no-nonsense homicide detective. Several years earlier, Catherine witnessed the murder of her mother at the hands of two gunmen. Catherine would have been killed too, but someone – or something – saved her. No one has ever believed her, but she knows it wasn’t an animal that attacked the assassins…it was human. Years have passed, and Catherine is a strong, confident, capable police officer, working alongside her equally talented partner, Tess. While investigating a murder, Catherine discovers a clue that leads her to a handsome doctor named Vincent Keller, who was reportedly killed by enemy fire while serving in Afghanistan in 2002.

Catherine learns that Vincent is actually still alive and that it was he who saved her many years before. For mysterious reasons that have forced him to live outside of traditional society, Vincent has been in hiding for the past 10 years to guard his secret – when he is enraged, he becomes a terrifying beast, unable to control his super-strength and heightened senses. Catherine agrees to protect his identity in return for any insight he may have into her mother’s murder. Thus begins a complex relationship between Catherine and Vincent, who are powerfully drawn to each other yet understand that their connection is extremely dangerous for both of them.

Vincent and Cat’s relationship became even more complicated on the latest episode of “Beauty and the Beast.” “Redemption” opens with Vincent (Jay Ryan) dreaming that Cat (Kristin Kreuk) tells him she loves him, solidifying the fact he’s still in love with her. Gabe (Sendhil Ramamurthy) had faked his death to give Sam (Tom Everett Scott) time to pursue his devious plans, giving the team a lead on the elusive billionaire they’ve been chasing. Gabe was not happy to hear that not many people attended his funeral. But he didn’t have time to dwell on it, as he and the team discover that Sam is taking orphans from the place where Gabe grew up and is trying to turn them into beasts.

Gabe is forced to remain in hiding, so Cat and Vincent go to the hospital where a victim of Sam’s is nearing death. Vincent starts to feel responsible for saving that person, which brings out his desire to be a doctor again. Vincent saves the person from dying, revealing that he still has a sympathetic, caring side.  Yet, Vincent beasts out again after Gabe ruins his fake death, letting Sam know that it was all a ruse. Gabe makes the stupid move because he’s feeling intimidated by Vincent’s prominent place in Cat’s life, and the fact that they’re clearly getting closer again.

After Vincent saves the dying man, he helps the team take on a new beast, Jacob, who makes some attempts to inject Gabe with serum. Cat fatally shoots Jacob to save Gabe, which upsets her because the beast was an unwilling victim of Sam’s villainy. Afterwards, Gabe expresses his exasperation about Vincent to Cat, saying it feels like there are three of them in the relationship. Later, Cat has a dream similar to Vincent’s, in which Vincent declares her love for Cat. Yet, at one point in the dream, she pushes him to the floor, injuring, right before Cat wakes up. Cat wakes up next to Gabe feeling frightened and worried. She knows that she and Vincent are inextricably bound to one another, but is afraid that it will ultimately end in heartbreak.

In the next episode, “Catch Me If You Can,” Cat and Vincent will find themselves in a complicated situation. The synopsis reads: “Feeling pulled between her current boyfriend and her ex, Cat (Kristin Kreuk) has to decide between Gabe (Sendhil Ramamurthy) and Vincent (Jay Ryan). While Cat and Vincent work together to save Sam’s (guest star Tom Everett Scott) latest victim, Cat’s decision gets complicated when she and Vincent find themselves in a compromising situation.” Then in the winter finale, which will be called “About Last Night,” Vincent and Cat will be forced to revisit a romantic destination from their past, which could lead to sparks between the star-crossed lovers.

Rediscovering the fairy tale

Season 2 of Beauty And The Beast departs from police procedural drama to recover what it always was … a romantic thriller.

A HUSH fell over the crowd the moment Beauty And The Beast stars Kristin Kreuk and Jay Ryan walked into the room full of international journalists at a press conference in Los Angeles, California.

Kreuk looked poised and confident clad in a light, flowy beige top paired with dark bottoms, her brunette locks tied into an elegant bun and her almond-shaped eyes glinting as they roamed the crowd before her — looking every bit the modern day fairy tale character she portrays.

Ryan, who followed closely behind Kreuk, also lived up to his role as the reimagined Beast of the fairytale classic but (thankfully) in a less creepy way.

The 1.85m-tall actor looked dapper in a three-piece navy blue suit but there was something about him, perhaps the combination of his towering stature and his hard gaze that suggested Ryan hadn’t entirely left his character’s raw, primal persona on the set of the TV show.

There is no doubt, then, that the actors embody their characters well, both on- and off-screen. So it’s all the more interesting when a journalist asked if there was anything beastly about Beauty and beautiful about the Beast, as if to throw them off guard.

Vincent (Jay Ryan) goes on a national talk show to reveal he is still alive, while Cat (Kristin Kreuk) dives into an undercover case for FBI Agent Dana Landon (guest start Elisabeth Röhm). Vincent, determined to learn more about his beastly origins, ends up coming face-to-face with Cat in The Middle of a heist, which forces them to work together. Sendhil Ramamurthy, Nina Lisandrello and Austin Basis also star. Steven A. Adelson directed the episode written by Roger Grant and Rupa Magge

Catherine “Cat” Chandler (Kristin Kreuk, “Smallville,” “Chuck”) is a smart, no-nonsense detective, spurred to action after hired killers murdered her mother – and would have murdered Cat, too – if something, some beast, hadn’t stopped them. Ten years later, a case brings her to Vincent Keller (Jay Ryan, “Top of the Lake,” “Terra Nova”), a supposedly deceased soldier living off the grid with the help of his loyal childhood friend and scientist, J.T. Forbes (Austin Basis, “Life Unexpected”). Cat is shocked to discover that her mother was involved in an experiment to make super-soldiers and, when the experiment went wrong, the soldiers, including Vincent, were turned into uncontrollable beasts.

Vincent managed to escape the experiment alive, but is now being Hunted by Muirfield, the organization that sent the gunmen after Cat’s mother. Vincent had been tracking them, which led him to be in the right place to save Cat on that terrible night ten years ago. He’s been drawn to her ever since. Cat, too, is drawn to Vincent, and an epic love begins. Muirfield reappears and infiltrates Cat’s life, costing her some of her closest relationships. She’s lied to her own sister, Heather (guest star Nicole Gale Anderson), and to her best friend and partner, Detective Tess Vargas (Nina Lisandrello, “Nurse Jackie”), in order to protect them. When police cases involving “beast” elements go unsolved, Assistant District Attorney Gabriel Lowan (Sendhil Ramamurthy, “Covert Affairs,” “Heroes”) is assigned to track down this mysterious “vigilante.”

Lowan, who uses questionable methods in his attempt to Capture this beast, quickly recognizes Cat’s attachment to the creature, admits he is also a beast, and kidnaps Cat in the hopes of luring Vincent to his death. In the final battle, Gabe is seriously wounded by mysterious men in a helicopter who Capture Vincent, separating Cat from the man she loves and has sacrificed everything for. As season two begins, Cat reunites with Vincent after last season’s abduction – but not in the way she planned. He’s changed: his scar has disappeared, his memory has been wiped clean, and he returns as a supercharged beast on a mysterious mission. Cat needs to unravel the reasons behind Vincent’s change if she has any hope of recovering their epic love, while also trying to solve the secrets that swirl around her own life.
